Sorrento, situated in the gulf of the same name, has been praised and sung by poets and writers as the city of gardens and sunsets.

Torquato Tasso, writer of the famous Jerusalem Liberated was born here in 1544. The town is a long terrace overlooking the sea and has charming views over the Gulf of Naples, to the right Vesuvius, to the left the island of Procida and the Miseno Cape.

Today, rich orange and lemon groves are the pride of Sorrento. Among the many artisan products, inlaid woodwork is the most important.
